Zafar also reiterated govt's support to the anti-graft watchdog for the arrest of culprits.

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Friday s corruption court ruling, which sentenced former prime minister Nawaz Sharif to 10 years in prison, would have no affect on a general election due later this month.

"If someone has reservations regarding the verdict, appeal in higher courts. Government will provide whatever support needed for the implementation of the judgement," said caretaker Information Minister Ali Zafar.

"Tranparent elections will take place on time," he told reporters at a press conference in Lahore.

Reiterating the government s support to the anti-graft watchdog for the arrest of culprits, Zafar said all are equal before the law. "Judiciary is working within constitutional framework," he added.

Regarding water scarcity in the country, the minister lamented that Pakistan has not made adequate investments to secure water for its future use.

"Only five to seven per cent is being invested to secure water in Pakistan. Other countries, however, spend 20-25 per cent of their money on water," he said.

"We re wasting this precious resource."
