Tips and guidelines for voters during the General Elections 2018

Before the Polling Day

Register yourself as a voter at any Election Commission (EC)

You can submit your application along with a copy of CNIC to the District Election Commissioner (DEC)/ Registration Officer/Assistant Registration Officer of the district where you want to get your name enrolled. The prescribed Form (Enrolment / Transfer of Vote) is available online at the ECP website or they can be obtained free of cost from the office of the District Election Commissioner / Registration Officer OR Assistant Registration Officer/Display Centre Incarge.

A person shall be entitled to be enrolled as a voter in an electoral area if he—
(a) is a citizen of Pakistan;
(b) is not less than eighteen years of age;
(c) possesses a National Identity Card issued by the National Database and Registration Authority
(d) is not declared by a competent court to be of unsound mind; and
(e) is or is deemed under section 27 to be resident in the electoral area

Check your voter details

There are two ways to get this information:

a) Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) in collaboration with NADRA provides SMS service for the public to facilitate the eligible voters to check their registration status. Public can get the information by entering CNIC number and sending the text message to the number 8300. An automated response will be received in this regard with the name of electoral area, block code and serial number.

b) Every registered voter can check his/her particulars by visiting their respective District Election Commissioner’s office, where the final electoral roll is available. The addresses or contact information of the DEC’s offices across the four provinces can be found on the Election Commissions website

Check your polling station

Check your designated polling station or the constituency details on the same website or your respective district election commissioner’s office.

On Polling Day

Reach polling station early

Be at the polling station as early as possible to avoid a long queue. This will also ensure that your ID number will be taken off the electoral list and no one can misuse your name and ID number.

Upon Arrival

Upon entering the polling station, polling clerks will verify your name and ID number.

Get your hands checked

Another polling staffer will check your hands for any marks or stains, while the another officer will ask you to dip your finger in the ink (make sure you are not wearing nail polish, henna or must not have any cut or mark especially on your thumb) to take your thumb impression.

On Voting Booth

You will be given two ballot papers for National and Provincial Assembly to proceed to the voting booth and stamp the name and symbol alloted to your chosen candidate. Be careful while stamping, else your vote would be wasted.

Cast Your Vote

Fold your ballot paper in half and move to the ballot box to put the papers in the right boxes. (National or Provincial)
