ECP suffers administrative crisis, may influence general elections 2018

Dozen of posts from 18-21 grade are vacant.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) suffers administrative crisis as main positions of additional secretaries admin, training and research offices are vacant.

According to details, the seats of three director generals, three additional secretary generals, three directors, seven regional election commissioners are vacant. Moreover, dozen of posts from grade 18-21 are vacant. The positions of two provincial election commissioners are also vacant.

Dr. Akhtar Nazir appointed as Chief Secretary Balochistan leaving post of additional secretary election vacant, while Zafar Iqbal Malik appointed as provincial Election Commissioner Punjab and the post of additional secretary training became vacant.

The sources reported that 10 seats of District Election Commissioners and 20 seats of election officers are vacant.

This staff deficiency was created as promotions were not granted to the officers. It is suspected that this staff shortage would influence election procedure of 2018.

However, spokesperson of election commission Nadeem Qasim assured that current crisis will not affect the general elections 2018.
