The temperature in Karachi escalated to 45C.

KARACHI (Dunya News) – Several areas in Karachi lack heatstroke camps despite the claims of district administration and Metropolitan Corporation to gear up efforts to save lives during extreme weather conditions.

The mercury level in Karachi surge up to scorching 45ºC.

Director General (DG) Met Ghulam Rasool has warned that the fresh heatwave will persist in the city for five to six days. He has said that the temperature will return to normal after three to four days once the winds change their direction.

The sea breeze will begin to blow from Friday, forecasts Met Office.

Experts have advised the citizens to adopt precautionary measures and stay indoors while avoiding unnecessary outdoor visits.

Weather forecast suggests mainly hot and dry in most parts, while extremely hot in Sindh, Punjab, D.I.Khan, Sibbi, Makran divisions. As per synoptic situation, continental air is prevailing over most parts of the country.

The heatwave coincides with the beginning of Ramazan, when millions of devout Pakistanis abstain from food and drink from sunrise to sunset.

In June 2015 about 1,200 people died in Karachi during a heatwave, with nearly two-thirds of the victims homeless people.
