FATA Reforms Bill to be tabled in NA today
FATA would be provided Rs 100 billion per annum for next ten years for development of infrastructure
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) Reforms Bill will be tabled in the National Assembly today (Thursday) that includes the merger of the tribal areas with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The government has decided to table the Fata Reforms Bill after parliamentary leaders of all political parties have expressed their agreement over the final draft of the bill.
Sources confirmed that the Fata Reforms Bill is likely to be tabled as the ‘30th Amendment Bill, 2017’ that includes a comprehensive package and timeline for its implementation.
According to PM’s Special Assistant on Law Zafarullah Khan, after the passage of the amendment about 150 new laws of Pakistan would get implemented in Fata and after the merger, all the laws of rest of Pakistan would be effective in the tribal areas.
He further said that Frontier Crimes Regulations will be abolished and it will be replaced with an interim governance system till the inclusion of the region with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The seats of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the National assembly will be increased from 48 to 60 after the merger of FATA. The seats for the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assembly will increase to 147 from the current 126 after its merger with FATA.
FATA would be provided Rs 100 billion per annum for the next ten years for development of infrastructure and brining it at par with developed areas of the country.
Meanwhile, Pakistan People’s Party chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has asked lawmakers of his party to ensure their attendance in the assembly for today’s session in order to have the said constitutional amendment passed.
