Karachi expected to endure rise in temperature between 41-43 degrees

Met Office has predicted the heatwave process to linger till Thursday.

KARACHI (Dunya News) – Karachi continues to sizzle under an intense heat spell on Wednesday that will likely take the mercury level between 41-43 degrees.

Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) says that the humidity proportion in the air is 20 percent whereas no sea breeze blows in the city on third day.

Yesterday, the temperature of Karachi exceeded 42 degrees at 2pm while the heat index was observed at 44 degrees. Humidity level remained at four percent and hot winds slowly blew until evening that resulted in slight temperature drop off.

Met Office has predicted the heatwave process to linger till Thursday.

Due to the scorching weather, the examinations scheduled to be held in Sindh Madressatul Islam University (SMIU) from May 22-24 have been postponed. The new date will be announced later.

However; the university says that the examinations set to be held on May 25 and afterwards will be conducted as per schedule.

According to the weather forecast, mainly hot and dry weather is expected in most parts of the country. However, light rain is expected at a few places in Malakand division and Gilgit-Baltistan.

The heatwave coincides with the beginning of Ramazan, when millions of devout Pakistanis abstain from food and drink from sunrise to sunset.

In June 2015 about 1,200 people died in southern Pakistan during a heatwave, with nearly two-thirds of the victims homeless people.
