Won't allow derogatory remarks against judiciary: Shehbaz

Shehbaz says 'selective accountability' will be counterproductive
Lahore (Dunya News) – A day after scores of political workers were booked for allegedly demonstrating against the apex court, Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said derogatory remarks against the judiciary will not be allowed.
Addressing a ceremony held in honour of Danish School position holders at the CM’s Secretariat, Shehbaz said that cooperation among institutions should be encouraged. The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) president said that it was the duty of the National Accountability Court (NAB) to reveal corruption – be it of Re 1 or Rs 1 billion.
“A sum of Rs 70 billion was being embezzled in the Punjab Saaf Company and we got registered cases against corruption,” he said and asked: “Where was the NAB then?”
He said that NAB should hold Babar Awan accountable if there was no bidding in Nandipur power plant. He warned that “selective accountability” would be counterproductive.
Referring to his political opponents, the chief minister dubbed Bilawal a child and criticised Imran Khan over horse-trading remarks.
On Monday, a three-judge LHC bench, headed by Justice Syed Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi and also comprising Justice Atir Mahmood and Justice Chaudhry Masood Jahangir, banned airing of anti-judiciary speeches while hearing petitions challenging PEMRA’S failure to stop broadcasting of alleged anti-judiciary speeches by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leaders since the removal of the former premier by the Supreme Court.
However, most of the news channels and newspapers reported that the court had banned alleged “anti-judiciary” speeches of Nawaz and his daughter Maryam.
On Wednesday, Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar expressed anger at the incorrect reports, saying that the LHC had placed a ban on Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz’s speeches.
CJP remarked that every newspaper had printed the aforementioned news. “Let us know where order of ban is written in the verdict”, CJP remarked while adding, “Fake news was aired on all TV channels”.
