(Dunya News) – Started two years ago, the building of the Child Protection Bureau (CPB) in Faisalabad remains incomplete despite the investment of millions in the project, which is facing continuous delays costing extra overheads.

Spread over an area of 38 kanals, the construction of the building started in March 2016 with a cost exceeding Rs 200 million. Owing to the delays in the construction of the new building, the department is suffering extra losses under the head of rent worth millions for the current building.

The unfinished building located on Millat Road in Faisalabad was due to be completed within one-and-a-half years. But owing to administrative negligence and oversight, the project has been delayed so much so that despite the passage of 2 years, the building looks like an in-progress construction site.

The purpose of the Child Protection building was to provide abandoned and street children a safe and protected environment where they could be offered education and co-curricular activities.

While the project progresses at a snail’s pace, the District Officer Child Protection claims otherwise saying that the project is close to completion.

“Funds are being released in a timely manner. There is no delay…the project will be finished soon,” said District Officer at the Child Protection Bureau while speaking to Dunya News.

With the completion of the building, not only will abandoned children living in the centre be provided with a better environment to grow but it will also allow savings that is being currently spent on a monthly basis as rent for the building where the CPB office currently is.
