(Dunya News) – Polling for 52 seats of the senate is in process. Various MPAs and MNAs have begun casting their votes on Saturday amid tight security in and around the parliament and all provincial assemblies.

For 52 seats, 131 contestants are participating in the senate elections. The polling which started at 9am on Saturday.

In Punjab, 20 candidates are contesting for 12 seats, and 10 contestants for 7 general seats.

Two seats are reserved for technocrats and five candidates are contesting for it. Meanwhile, three women are contesting for two reserved seats for women.

In Sindh, 33 candidates from different political parties are contesting for 12 reserved seats while 18 candidates are up for the general seats.

For two technocrat seats 6 candidates are contesting and for two women seats 6 candidates are contesting the elections.

For Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s 11 seats as many as 26 candidates will be contesting out of which 7 general seats, 2 for technocrats, and two are reserved for women.

In addition, in Balochistan, 23 candidates are contesting for 11 seats including technocrats and two reserved seats for women.

From Islamabad, five candidates will be contesting on two seats for senate elections.

Four senators would be elected from FATA on general seats. Meanwhile, Punjab and Sindh assemblies would also vote for two minority senators, one from each assembly.

All members of PMLN will be contesting as independent candidates. The voting for senate elections will end at 4 pm on March 3.
