Pakistan stands for peaceful, stable Afghanistan, says President Zardari.
President Asif Ali Zardari on Tuesday said Afghan leadership should lead the peace process in their country instead of foreign forces.Talking to Sir Peter Ricketts, the UK national security adviser, at the Presidency, Zardari said that any initiative on Afghanistan should ensure Afghan ownership of the process as well as territorial integrity of the country, and that its soil would not be used against any other country.According to presidential spokesperson Farhatullah Babar, the president said Pakistan wanted a peaceful, stable, friendly and united Afghanistan, as Pakistan was directly affected by any development in Afghanistan.Ricketts was accompanied by Chief of Defence Staff General Sir David Richards, Chief of SIS (Secret Intelligence Service) Sir John Sawers and UK’s High Commissioner to Pakistan Adam Thomson.From Pakistani side included Interior Minister Rehman Malik, Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, ISI Director General Lt Gen Ahmad Shuja Pasha and Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir attended the meeting.
