Senate elections 2018: ECP issues final list of 136 contestants

(Dunya News) - The Election Commission of Pakistan has issued the final list for Senate elections 2018. This year 136 applicants will contest for 52 Senate seats.

According to the Election Commission of Pakistan, in Senate elections, 33 candidates have applied for Sindh. For Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 27, Balochistan 25, Punjab 20 and from Islamabad 7 people have contested for Senate seats.

For Sindh’s seats, 33 applicants have applied including some important contenders from two main parties – Pakistan Peoples Party and Muttahida Qaumi Movement - Pakistan.

Some of the prominent names includes, Mian Raza Rabbani, Maula Bux Chandio, Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar, and Murtaza Wahab from PPP and Kamran Tessori, Farogh Naseem, Ahmed Chinoy, Syed Ameen-ul-Haq, Amir Chishti, and Farhan Chishti, Dr. Nasreen Jaleel are contesting from MQM- P.

From Punjab, Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz, Ishaq Dar, Asif Kirmani, Kamran Michael, Musadik Malik and Hafiz Abdul Kareem are contesting. Besides the dominating N league, Andaleeb Abbas from PTI and Kamil Ali Agha from Pakistan Muslim League (Q) are also among the candidates for the Senate seats.

For Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, contesting from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf are Faisal Javed, and Azam Swati, PML-N’s Sabir Shah, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F)’s Talha Mahmood and PPP’s Faisal Sakhi Butt while Maulana Sami ul Haq is contesting independently.

Besides 24 contestants, Syed Akhunzada Chattan is contesting for FATA Senate seats. PML-N’s Mushahid Hussain will be contesting for the federal capital seat.

The elections for the Senate seats will be held on March 3.
