Karachi court convicts two Chinese nationals in ATM skimming fraud
They were sentenced to one year in prison with a fine of PKR 50,000 rupees
KARACHI (Dunya News) – City court in Karachi convicted two Chinese nationals in ATM skimming fraud and sentenced them to one year is prison with PKR 50,000 fine.
The two Chinese culprists appeared before the court in ATM fraud case. The court ordered punishment after their allegations were proven through evidence.
It was seen that both culprits used skimming devices to steal money from ATMs. They were arrested last year by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in Defence area where they revealed to steal money from ATMs through their high-tech equipment.
According to estimations, bank accounts of as many as six hundred Pakistani were looted in the skimming fraud that surfaced last year. The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) had taken notice of the scam and directed all banks to take precautionary measures.
FIA had investigated the matter on SBP’s order and arrested several foreign nationals from Karachi and Islamabad.
