(Dunya News) – While seven-year-old Zainab’s suspected murderer may have been apprehended by the law enforcement agencies, children remain vulnerable to such heinous incidents as countless cases of child sexual abuse are still coming to light.

The law enforcement agencies and government institutions have a major role to play but so does the society, and especially parents in ensuring their children are safe.

In the wake of recent events, discussions and debates on the issue of child abuse have encouraged the society to speak up on the subject and also learn.

For parents and guardians, there are several ways in which they could communicate better with their children. Parents should develop a stronger bond with their children, giving them a friendly environment where children can easily confide in their parents without fear.

Parents should teach their children about certain things that are harmful such as a bad touch or if someone is doing something which they feel is wrong or inappropriate. The child should be encouraged to immediately speak to the parents.

Similarly, parents should raise awareness among their children about how they must never to go alone in someone’s room, whether it is a servant or a relative.

Children need to be taught that they should not accept any kind of eatables or money from strangers.

Parents should not ignore any kind of signs such as if the child seems frightened of someone in particular or appears disturbed.

If a child asks questions regarding something, they have seen over the social media parents should give them satisfactory answers. Parents should strictly keep an eye over their website browsing and ensure that there is a limited access to their internet activities.
