(Dunya News) - A two week long joint exercise DRUZBA 2017 between special forces of Pakistan and Russia armies has started in Mineralnye Vody, Russia.

The opening ceremony was attended by senior military officials of special forces of both countries.

According to Inter Service Public Relations (ISPR), the joint exercise will focus on counter terrorism operations, hostage rescue, cordon and search operation.

The joint exercise will enhance and further strengthen military ties between both the countries and share Pakistan Army’s experience in war against terrorism, the ISPR stated.

Moscow and Islamabad have expanded their defense and economic cooperation in recent years. In a military cooperation pact signed in 2014, both countries had expressed hope that the agreement will pave the way for exchange of views and information, as well as issues related to strengthening of mutual trust and international security, counter-terrorist and arms control activities.

Russia, in August, delivered 4 Mi-35 gunship helicopters to Pakistan under a $153 million contract signed earlier this year.

In September last year, a contingent of Russian ground forces arrived in Pakistan for first ever Pak-Russian joint exercise. The joint military exercise was planned on a massive scale with 200 military personnel participating from each side.
