ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) - The Director General of South Asia and South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) Dr. Mohammad Faisal summoned Indian Deputy High Commissioner, Mr. J.P. Singh and condemned the unprovoked ceasefire violations by the Indian occupation forces in Chirikot Sector (Kakuta, Nullah and Polas Villages).

On 02 September 2017, Indian forces resorted to firing that resulted in the martyrdom of an 8-year-old girl Momina, who was resident of village Polas.

In 2017 to date, Indian forces have carried out more than 700 ceasefire violations along the Line of Control (LoC) and the working boundary that claimed lives of 30 innocent civilians and injured 113 people, as compared to 382 ceasefire violations in 2016.

The deliberate targeting of civilians is indeed deplorable and contrary to human dignity and international human rights and humanitarian laws, said Foreign Office press release.

The DG also urged the Indian side to respect the 2003 ceasefire arrangement, investigate this and other incidents of ceasefire violations, instruct the Indian forces to respect the ceasefire, in letter and spirit and maintain peace on the LoC.

He demanded that the Indian side should permit United Nations Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP) to play its mandated role as per the UN Security Council resolutions.
