Population census: Men outnumber women in Karachi

KARACHI (Dunya News)- As per provisional results of sixth population census, Pakistan economic hub Karachi’s population has ballooned to 16.051 million, reported Roznama Dunya on Monday.

The figure for metropolis stood at 9.8 million in 1998.

As per details garnered, men constitutes 84,39,659 of the total population and women make 76,10,365 while 1497 members of transgender community are also residing in the city. The population has augmented by 61,95,203 or 62.95pc in the last 19 years. The aforementioned figures show an annual population growth rate of 2.6pc.

The population of District of Central Karachi stands at 29,71,626 whereas population of District East stands at 29,07,467. District West remains most crowded with 39,14,757 inhabitants while District East comes at bottom with 17,91,751 residents. The population of Korangi District is 24,57,019 while population of District Malir is 20,08,901.

The overall population of Sindh has augmented to 40.78 million which contains 2,49,27,046 men and 2,29,56,478 women with 2527 members of transgender community. The number of houses in Sindh ar 85,85,610.

The population as per division is as follow:

6192380 in Larkana, 5538555 in Sukkur, 10592365 in Hyderabad division, 4228683 in Mirpur Khas and 5282277 in Shaheed Benazir Abad.
