Zil-Hajj moon not sighted, Eid-ul-Azha on September 2

Month of Zil-Hajj will commence from Thursday while September 2 will mark Eid-ul-Azha 2017

KARACHI (Dunya News) – Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Chairman Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman announced that Zil-Hajj moon could not be sighted today and the month will commence from Thursday which is August 24, adding that September 2 will mark Eid-ul-Azha 2017.

Members of Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee arrived at Karachi Met Office on Tuesday to sight the moon of Zil-Hajj. A session was held where officials of zonal committees, Pakistan Navy, Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) and SPARCO.

Testimonies of moon-sighting were collection from all over the country. Not a single confirmed testimony of sighting Zil-Hajj could be received. Zonal committees of Lahore, Islamabad and elsewhere told they received no testimony, hence Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee made the call that the month of Zil-Hajj will begin from August 24.

Muslim religious festival Eid-ul-Azha in which animals are sacrificed will be celebrated on September 2 (Saturday).

Eid Holidays

According to the announcement, public holidays for Eid-ul-Azha will be from September 1 to September 4. People will enjoy four holidays including the weekend.
