ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - PML-N leader and former railways minister Khawaja Saad Rafique expressed hope in his tweet that Shahid Khaqan Abbasi will become the next interim Prime Minister after gaining 235 votes from the assembly.

He vowed to take Nawaz Sharif’s Pakistan ahead despite hurdles and conspiracies from their opponents. Saad Rafique also raised slogan by terming the PML-N supporters as ‘Nawaz Sharif’.

He asserted that democracy is through public, power is with authority and state is with constitution.

The National Assembly will meet today to elect a new prime minister after Supreme Court of Pakistan disqualified Nawaz Sharif over a corruption scandal.

The court ruled that corruption cases be filed against him and his children over the Panama Papers scandal, forcing the embattled leader out of office.

Nawaz Sharif has named Shahid Khaqan Abbasi as the interim leader and his brother, Shahbaz Sharif, as the long-term successor. Shahbaz Sharif, currently the chief minister of Punjab will have to resign from his post and run for a by-election to join Parliament before he is elected as prime minister.
