Saudi-Qatar rift: Pakistan sends emphatic signals of neutrality
PM held talks with the Saudi leadership.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News)- Pakistan has opted to remain neutral in the ongoing tussle between Saudi-led coalition and Qatar whereas efforts have been accelerated for diplomatic solution to the quandary engulfing the Persian Gulf.
In bid to ease tensions, Nawaz chaired meeting of envoys appointed in the aforementioned states and stern directives have been served not to issue statements which show biasedness in any sense. Then, PM along with army chief departed on a day-long visit to Saudi Arabia where they held talks with the Saudi leadership on the latest situation developing amongst the GCC countries.
Furthermore, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has decided to take Emir Kuwait and Turkish President into confidence and the trio would exert pressure on Saudi and Qatari leadership in this regard.
Unfortunately, the rupture in Arab diplomatic relations with Qatar and military alliance suspension raises the stakes for many non-Arab Muslim nations especially Pakistan. It threatens to jeopardize their relations with Qatar and force them to choose between Saudi Arabia and Iran.
But at present, Pakistan holds the advantage of enjoying friendly relations with all the states engulfed in the Saudi-Qatar rift. Therefore, Nawaz has done right by sending an emphatic signals that Pakistan’s national interest demands it to stay neutral.
