SC grants time for NAB chairman appointment

The Supreme Court of Pakistan has granted time for the appointment of Chairman National Accountability Bureau with the remarks that if the government does not follow the law to appoint the NAB chairman, the court will suspend the first notification.

The Supreme Court 4-member bench headed by Justic Javaid Iqbal, heard the writ regarding the appointment of Justice Deedar Shah as NAB chairman. Counsel for Federation Abdul Hafeez Pirzada appeared before the court and maintained that being law officer of the court and not as counsel for federation, he was of the opinion that if there were any technical lacunae in the notification, it could be rectified without a discontinuity of the process.Justice Asif Saeed Khan Khosa observed that the first notification could be revoked to rectify the consultation process. The court also observed that the appointment of new NAB chairman will not possible without the removal of Justic Deedar Shah.
