PM, COAS take notice of threat calls received by PEMRA
Both civilian and military leadership assure protection of PEMRA employees
(Web Desk) – Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa have taken notice of threats received by Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA).
Earlier on Monday, the chairman of media watchdog Absar Alam had claimed receiving threatening phone calls, adding that unknown persons were warning the him and his employees of severe consequences against their crackdown on a private TV channel.

Both offices of the premier and Army Chief have assured PEMRA Chairman of protection and vowed to take strict action against those involved. They have ordered investigation into the matter.
Absar Alam said, “COAS and PM have taken notice of threat calls and assured protection of PEMRA workers”. “The authorities have started their investigation into the threat calls matter,” he added.

While talking about PEMRA rights and hate speech by some media organizations, he had earlier urged Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Chief Justice of Pakistan, Saqib Nisar and Chief of the Army Staff, General Qamar Javed Bajwa to take notice of the issue
Alam had claimed that the regulatory body would not be able to work as required by the law if faced with stay orders all the time, adding that every time the regulators take action against illegal broadcast, be it out of obscenity or sedition, the violators are granted a stay order by a court.
