Pakistani husband files plea in IHC to halt Indian wife's repatriation

Dunya News

He has requested the court to allow him to meet his wife in a free environment.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Pakistani man Tahir Khan on Thursday has filed a plea in Islamabad High Court seeking to halt the repatriation of his Indian wife Uzma.

Tahir has stated in the petition that his wife has gone against him following the duress of Indian High Commission. He has requested the court to allow him to meet his wife in a free environment so that they can clear the misunderstanding between them.

Tahir has made interior secretary, foreign secretary, Indian High Commission and Dr Uzma parties in the case.

Uzma and Tahir fell in love after meeting in Malaysia. She then arrived in Pakistan and contracted Nikah with Tahir on May 3. The couple then approached Indian High Commission to apply for visas however; she did not return from the office after being called by an official.

Later, the Indian High Commission asserted that Uzma had sought refuge and asked for legal help to be repatriated to India. She claimed that she came to know about Tahir’s first marriage and four children after tying knot with him.

The Indian High Commission provided an attorney, transportation and security to Uzma after which she appeared before a local court in Islamabad stating that she was forced to marry Tahir at gunpoint. She also accused her Pakistani husband of sexual and physical abuse and confiscating her travel documents.

Judicial Magistrate Haider Ali Shah has summoned Tahir, the cleric who solemnised the marriage and witnesses in the case on July 11.

On the other hand, Tahir has refuted all such accusations and has said that Uzma knew about his first marriage and children whereas he also had the knowledge that she was already married and had a daughter.
