The top court heard the case over offshore companies

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Supreme Court has ordered chief of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan to provide money trail of the funds utilised to pay off the debt to ex-wife Jemima Khan and purchase of Bani Gala residence among others.

The top court heard the case over offshore companies owned by Khan and secretary general of PTI, Jahangir Tareen.

During the court’s proceedings, Justice Ata Bandial remarked that the party would be banned if the verdict declares that PTI received funds from illegal means.

Advocate of Hanif Abbasi, a leader of the ruling party, maintained that Panama Leaks case was about the incumbent premier whereas this case is ‘about the future Prime Minister of Pakistan’.

However, Justice Bandial remarked whether the case concerning a Member of National Assembly had the magnitude same as the one against the premier.
Naeem Bukhari, counsel for the PTI chief said that a written statement of Imran Khan would be filed in the court over all the accusations. Record of bank transactions would also be submitted, he asserted.

Sheikh contested that nomination papers of Khan in 2002 neither mentioned anything regarding transferring the Bani Gala residence to Jemima Khan nor taking loan off the ex-wife. He further said that Khan maintained on the floor of the House that he brought money back to Pakistan after selling off his London apartment whereas he stated in court that he paid off debt to Jemima using the money.

Chief Justice of Pakistan, Anwar Zaheer Jamali said before the hearing was concluded that until illegality of PTI’s funds is proved, its certificate regarding the party’s money could not be held bogus.
