CJ says political issues shouldn't be decided in court; now case in court and will be heard on merit

ISLAMABAD: (Dunya News) – Supreme Court (SC) has on Thursday started hearing petitions against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan and senior leader Jahangir Tareen. Chief Justice (CJ) Saqib Nisar said that according to an American philosopher political issues shouldn’t be decided in courts but since the case has been taken up, it’ll be decided on merit, reported Dunya News.

According to details, Hanif Abbasi’s petitions against Imran Khan and Tareen were heard in SC. The court demanded documentary evidence of Imran Khan’s tax returns. Out of five allegations on Imran Khan, Akram Sheikh’s arguments have been completed on three. They said that the people funding PTI also included enemies of Pakistan.

SC expressed displeasure over PTI leader Naeem ul-Haque’s press talk in the premises of the court. CJ said that the press talk despite prohibition was unfortunate.

Hanif Abbasi’s lawyer said that Imran Khan was involved in a corrupt practice by not declaring Niazi Services Limited in his tax returns. He said that the party also deceived the election commission despite receiving funding from foreign countries. He said that the punishment of this crime was cancellation of the party but he only demanded Imran Khan’s disqualification.

CJ asked if there was a rule compelling someone living abroad to disclose his/her assets. Justice Umar Atta Bandial said that Niazi Services Limited was dismantled after the sale of Imran Khan’s flat. He demanded documentary evidence of Imran Khan’s tax returns.

Akram Sheikh said that he didn’t possess Imran Khan’s tax returns documents and thus the court postponed the hearing till Monday.
