Several arrested as police, JI scuffle outside Idara Noor-e-Haq

JI Karachi chief Hafiz Naeem was also arrested over protest call against KE

KARACHI (Dunya News) – At least 20 workers of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) including their Karachi’s chief, Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman as scuffles broke out between police and JI workers outside Idara Noor-e-Haq, the party’s headquarters.



The arrests were made after JI workers were gearing up to stage a protest against Karachi Electric corporation.



Following the arrest of JI chief’s arrest; the angry workers blocked both the tracks of the Shahra-e-Faisal.

However, police reached the spot and started aerial shelling and tear gas in order to disperse the demonstrators. Meanwhile, some extra contingents of police were deployed to control the protesters.



Meanwhile, the angry protestors resorted to pelting stones at the law enforcement personnel.


In an effort to control the situation, police also tried to negotiate with the party’s leadership so as to end the protest.

Moreover, the JI workers who were protesting at MA Jinnah road earlier also reached Shahra-e-Faisal.




Earlier, the JI workers had given a protest call against the Karachi Electric corporation (KE) for charging exorbitant tariff from its consumers.



Jamaat-e-Islami spokesperson revealed that the police blocked the routes coming from and the Jamat-e-Islami’s Idara Noor-e-Haq.



Meanwhile, JI Emir Siraj Ul Haq has condemned the arrest of workers and threatened that country-wide demonstrations would be held provided the workers were not released.
