KESC sacks 4,000 employees

Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) has sacked over 4,000 workers to end non-productive departments. The decision was a part of a cost-cutting drive to make the power utility financially viable But the employees have announced to stage protest against this decision. Junior Officers, Office Assistants, Bill Distributors, Security Guards and Drivers were among the sacked employees. KESC had offered 4500 employees to resign voluntarily on December 31, 2010 and only 500 employees had resigned after this offer. After passing the set date, KESC Board of Directors decided to sack other 400 employees. On the other hand, KESC CBA union has given strike call against this decision.
