Senate opposition divided on privileged motion against PM
PPP refuses to support the privileged motion proposed by PTI in Senate
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Senate opposition remained divided on the matter of bringing privileged motion against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. It was proposed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) senators.
Members of Senate belonging to Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) decided not to support the privileged motion against PM Nawaz. In this way, the two major opposition parties failed to meet an understanding. PPP is yet to decide on whether to support the cause proposed by PTI.
The Awami National Party (ANP) also refrained from supporting the motion whereas MQM stayed uninterested on the matter. A Pakistan Muslim League (Q) member Mushahid Hussain also opposed PTI in this regard.
A new constitutional point also came in limelight asking whether or not it is allowed to propose such a motion since Nawaz Sharif is not a Senate member. Senate chairman Raza Rabbani’s opinion stood important during the session.
