Nato containers case: Investigation proved corruption
The investigation report into the Nato containers scam has confirmed liquor and arms smuggling instead of goods meant for the Nato and Isaf forces based in Afghanistan, Dunya News reported on Monday. It is pertinent to mention that the Supreme Court (SC) took suo moto notice of a report aired on Dunya News programme Dunya Today hosted by Dr Moeed Pirzada, about liquor smuggling in containers meant for carrying ammunition, food and other necessities for NATO forces in Afghanistan. The report is likely to be presented in the SC today. The report also divulged embezzlement of billions of rupees custom money besides the disappearance of Nato lorries, sources said. A three-member bench of the apex court under the head of Chief Justice of Pakistan ordered the Federal Tax Mohtasib to submit report within a month. However, Mohtasib failed to present the report in November and asked for extension of another month. The sources added the foreign ministry requested the Nato high-ups to extend assistance regarding the probe.
