Constitution bars open sale of liquor: SHC CJ
The case hearing has been adjourned till Dec 9.
KARACHI (Dunya NewS) - The Chief Justice of Sindh High Court (SHC) on Friday remarked that open sale of liquor has been banned in the country as per law.
While hearing a case regarding ban on liquor shops, the SHC CJ remarked that the Sindh Government won’t impose ban on alcohol even in the next 200 years.
Representative for minorities told court that more than 80 percent liquor was acquired by Muslims in the name of non-Muslims.
He suggested that liquor shops should be opened close to their temples.
The SHC CJ remarked that decision will be announced only on petitioners’ requests as per Supreme Court’s ruling.
He directed the Sindh Advocate General to submit reply at earliest. The case hearing was adjourned till Dec 9.
It may be mentioned here that the PPP-led Sindh government Nov 29th lifted ban on sale of liquor throughout the province despite the Supreme Court’s order.
