PS-127 by-election: Firing near Khokhrapar polling station leaves one wounded

KARACHI (Dunya News) – Firing by miscreants left a local wounded on Thursday near a polling station in Khokhrapar area amidst ongoing polling for by-election in PS-127.

Reportedly, a suspect, purportedly named Asif was caught and tortured by locals before police took him in custody and shifted to police station for interrogation.

Deputy Director General of Rangers, Brigadier Azhar paid a visit to Malir Khokhrapar and reviewed security arrangements. Personnel of Sindh Police and Rangers have been appointed inside and outside all the polling stations in the constituency.



Polling in polling stations 17 and 18 of Malir Khokhrapar started with at least 30 minutes delay as polling agents were not present on time. 

Voting for PS-127 by-election started at 8:00am and will continue till 5:00pm without interval. The seat was vacated after MPA Ashfaq Mandi of Muttahida Qaumi Movement resigned and joined Pak Sarzameen Party.

At least 21 candidates are contesting PS-127 by-election but a close contest is expected among MQM’s Waseem Ahmad, Pakistan People’s Party’s Ghulam Murtaza Baloch and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s Nadeem Memon.

There are 207,467 registered voters in the constituency who will exercise their right to vote.

At least 134 polling stations have been set up for the by-election out of which 67 and been declared highly sensitive while 49 and been declared sensitive by the Election Commission of Pakistan.

Separately, banners of MQM was torn apart in Jaffer Tayyar Society in Union Council-11.
