A fire that broke out at a garment factory in Karachi’s export processing zone has been brought under control, while cooling operations are still underway.
KARACHI (Dunya News) — Firefighters have brought a fire under control at a factory located in the export processing zone of Karachi’s Landhi area, while cooling operations are continuing to prevent the blaze from flaring up again.
According to officials of the Export Processing Zone, information about the fire was received at around 5:13 pm.
The fire broke out in the warehouse of a factory dealing in ready-made garments. Fortunately, no workers were present at the time as the factory had already closed for the day, helping avoid any loss of life.
Fire brigade officials said the cooling process would take another two to three hours. A total of 13 fire-fighting vehicles, including fire tenders and a snorkel, took part in the operation.
Fire units from the KMC, Rescue 1122, and the export processing zone jointly worked to bring the situation under control.
The fire erupted on the roof of a two-storey factory named ZA Enterprise. Initial reports suggest that the blaze was caused by a short circuit in a lift. As a result, ready-made garments worth millions of rupees were reduced to ashes.
Officials added that this was not an isolated incident, as six to seven fire incidents have already occurred in the export processing zone this year, raising serious safety concerns.
Despite the heavy losses, authorities confirmed that no casualties were reported, and the situation is now under control.
