Hurriyat leaders urged people to hold sit-in on roads.

SRINAGAR (Web Desk) - In occupied Kashmir, the top Hurriyat leadership has extended the strike call till Sunday (July 31) asking the people to hold sit-in protests against civilian killings.

The All Parties Hurriyat Conference Chairman, Syed Ali Gilani, and Hurriyat leaders, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik, in a joint statement issued in Srinagar said that on Saturday (July 30), people should hold sit-in on roads and offer Asr and Maghrib prayers together there.

People should also raise pro-freedom slogans and observe blackout from 8 pm to 9 pm, they said.

The leaders said that on Sunday (July 31) the people should march towards Martyrs’ Graveyards and offer Fateha Khawani there. They also called for painting of pro-freedom slogans’ graffiti on walls, roads and other places.

“Shutdown will continue as usual with daily relaxation after 7 pm till late hours. The detailed programme will be issued on Saturday (July 30),” they added.

Curfew in the region extended into its 22nd day following unrest that has left more than 60 protesters dead and injured around five thousand people.

Wide-scale protests against Indian rule have flared across the Muslim-majority territory since the killing on July 8 of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani in a firefight with the Indian forces.

Indian authorities have imposed a curfew, suspended mobile networks and internet in large parts of the territory and seized newspapers in a bid to quell protests.
