KARACHI (Dunya News) – More than 300 buildings have been bulldozed as anti-encroachment operation on Karachi’s Gujjar Nullah continued on fourth day, reported on Wednesday.
The authorities have resumed the drive against illegal constructions on Gujjar Nullah for which heavy machinery has been arranged.
According to director of anti-encroachment KMC Mazhar Khan, more than 300 buildings have been demolished so far while 9,700 illegal houses will further be destroyed during the operation.
He said that the flow of Nullah has become better after cleaning the garbage.
Reportedly, the drain was 210 feet wide but its width has been reduced to only five feet at many locations due to encroachments.
After the anti-encroachment drive, authorities will make it 60 feet wide and build a 10-foot-wide road on both sides.
Earlier, residents including women and children in large number protested against the move, however, police managed to disperse them within few minutes.
