World Population Day being observed across globe

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) -World Population Day is being observed across the globe including Pakistan on Monday.
In 1989, the Governing Council of the United Nations Development Programme recommended that 11 July be observed by the international community as World Population Day, a day to focus attention on the urgency and importance of population issues.
This year’s theme is ‘Investing in teenage girls.’
The United Nations Population Fund s (UNFPA) programmes aim to end child marriage, curb adolescent pregnancy, and to empower girls to make informed choices about their health and lives. In 2015 alone, UNFPA programmes helped 11.2 million girls between ages 10 and 19 gain access to sexual and reproductive health services and information.
The total population of the world has reached 7.5 billion with China being the world’s largest country in terms of population whereas Pakistan is on sixth number having more than 19 crore inhabitants.
Increase in population and decrease in the resources is creating enormous troubles.
Presently, more than three crore people areliving below the poverty line whereas six crore lack clean water, education, health and other basic facilities.
The rising population is also proving an obstacle in solving the problems, however; if it is not controlled the situation will worsen in the future.
