ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) - Pakistan on Wednesday strongly condemned terrorist attack at Ataturk Airport in Istanbul that claimed lives of 41 people and injured more than hundred others.

"It is with deep anguish and pain that we have learnt about the terrorist attack at Ataturk Airport in Istanbul. Reports indicate multiple explosions and gunfire, resulting in the loss of over 35 precious lives. There are also reports of more than 140 injured. We condemn this mindless act of terrorism in the strongest possible terms, the Foreign office said in a statement.

"We offer our heartfelt sympathies and condolences to the bereaved families and to the brotherly people and government of Turkey. We also pray for the speediest and fullest recovery of those wounded in this despicable attack."

The Foreign Office said: "Pakistan reiterates its condemnation of terrorism in all forms and manifestations. Like always, we stand in strong solidarity with the fraternal people of Turkey in their fight against terrorism. There is no doubt that this scourge would be decisively defeated with Turkey‘s iron will and unshakeable resolve."

Turkey pointed the finger of blame at Islamic State militants after suicide bombers armed with automatic rifles attacked Istanbul s main international airport, killing 41 people, including foreigners.

Witnesses described scenes of terror and panic on Tuesday evening as the attackers began shooting indiscriminately and then blew themselves up at the entrance to Ataturk airport, one of Europe s busiest hubs.

The assault, which comes at the start of Turkey s crucial tourist season, was the latest in a wave of attacks in Istanbul and the capital Ankara blamed either on Islamic State (IS) militants or Kurdish rebels.

The attack came just as Turkey, which had found itself increasingly friendless on the international stage, begins rebuilding relations with Israel and Russia.

It also follows coordinated IS suicide bombings at Brussels airport and a city metro station in March that left 32 people dead.
