KP Finance Minister Muzaffar Said presented the budget amidst uproar from Opposition

PESHAWAR (Dunya News) - Provincial Finance Minister Muzaffar Said presented the annual budget of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) for the fiscal year 2016-17 in the provincial assembly, reported Dunya News on Tuesday.

Volume of the provincial budget was set at Rs 505 billion. Opposition members recorded their protest by raising slogans during the budget speech.

Said said that reforms were made in three different sectors and various developmental projects were completed.

He added that priority was given to curb corruption.

 

Health:

Rs 38 billion have been reserved for health.

 

Sports:

Rs 100 million have been reserved for sports and culture.

 

Education:

Said stated that emphasis is being laid on the education sector, adding that Rs 11 billion 520 million have been reserved for education.

He said that Rs 12 billion 450 million have been reserved for primary and secondary education in the province.

The provincial government has decided to build 100 primary and 100 secondary schools, Said stated.

Rs 1 billion 690 million reserved for special education.

Recommendation to convert 100 madaris into primary schools has been given.

200 smart schools to be constructed in KP.

500 new Information Technology (IT) laboratories to be constructed in secondary schools.

Rs 1 billion 970 million reserved for Human Resource and technical education

Stipends to be issued on monthly basis for 500 artists, poets, intellects in KP.

 

Agriculture:

Rs 80 billion have been reserved for agriculture.

 

Police:

Rs 33 billion have been reserved for the police department.

 

Irrigation:

Rs 3 billion 420 million reserved for irrigation.

 

Pension:

Rs 40 billion 90 million reserved for pensions.

 

Communications: 

Rs 3 billion 20 million reserved for communications and construction.

 

Others:

Rs 200 million reserved for welfare of transgender community.

Recommendation to increase sales tax.

Increase in stamp duty and stamp paper also part of recommendations made.

Said further added that the federal government accepted KP s stance over profits made regarding the production of electricity. Furthermore, recommendations to increase rate of electricity duty has been made.

Recommendation to decrease transfer fee from 2% to 1% has been made.

Recommendation for change in tax implemented on cars has been given.

Rs 334 billion have been reserved for current expenditures.
