Faulty WASA tubewells add to Lahore's water woes

Dunya News

The locals used to get 450 million gallons water everyday earlier

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Several tubewells belonging to Water and Sanitation Agency have either given out or their capability has lessened by 50 percent owing to falling level of water, increasing water shortage in the city.

According to WASA officials, the authority operates 516 tube wells out of which capacity of 105 wells has fallen to 2 cusecs from the previous 4 cusecs.

The locals used to get 450 million gallons water everyday earlier but now the number has fallen to 420 million gallons.

Officials said that the localities which are at loss in the matter include Allama Iqbal Town, Anarkali, Tajpura, Township and Canal Bank Scheme. On the other hand, at least two to three tubewells give out every other day during summers and it is seen as normality by the department concerned.

However, the authorities concerned could have taken steps beforehand to ease the locals of the suffering in intense heat.
