PRSP employees', Kissan Ittehad's sit-in continues at Charing Cross
15 hours have passed since PRSP employees sit-in while Kissan Ittehad's protest entered the 9th hour
LAHORE (Dunya News) – The employees of Punjab Rural Support Programme (PRSP) on Wednesday staged a sit-in protest at Charing Cross area of Lahore and also clashed with the police earlier, Dunya News reported. Protesters have refused to budge and continue to protest even after 15 hours. Meanwhile the farmers of Kissan Ittehad have also staged a protest at Charing Cross which has entered into the 9th hour.

The sit-in protests and demonstrations have become a routine matter in the country, an extension of which was seen earlier today when the PRSP employees and farmers strongly protested in the scorching heat and staged sit-in until the demands are met.
The protesters clashed with the police which also turned physical on several occasions however none was reported to be hurt.
The employees of PRSP said they served the people for 12 years and they’re being compensated with unemployment. As many as 5500 employees of the programme are worried over being terminated. They state the government is adamant to terminate their contracts instead of hiring them on permanent basis. The protesters said they will continue to protest until the decision is reversed.

On the other hand, farmers have demanded that they should be provided electricity at a cheap rate, the problem of unavailability of packaging material should be addressed, fair price for wheat should be set and a subsidy should be given on fertilizers and urea. The famers said that they are being charged more than Rs. 8 per unit for electricity. They also demanded that their previous bills should be waived off and electricity should be provided to them at a rate of Rs.5 per unit.
The farmers also raised slogans in favour of their demands and protested by burning potatoes.
