Former PPP leader Asif Hashmi arrested in Dubai

Hashmi was involved in massive corruption while he was Chairman Evacuee Trustee Property Board

DUBAI (Dunya News) – Former leader of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and former chairman of Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETBB) Asif Hashmi has been arrested in Dubai by the Interpol, reported Dunya News.

Investigation was being carried out against Hashmi regarding a 5-billion dollar corruption scandal when he fled the country which made the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) contact the Interpol and issue a red-warrant after providing the details of Hashmi’s passports and the corruption he was involved in. Investigation was launched against Hashmi few months back during a meeting of NAB presided by the institution’s Chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhary.

Sources state that during his tenure as Chairman, Hashmi was involved in massive corruption and two separate investigations were launched against him in this regards.

Hashmi will soon be delivered to Pakistan in order to proceed the investigations.
