Sheikh Ansar becomes Mayor of Islamabad

The electoral procedure continued till 5 pm, Sheikh Ansar emerged victorious
ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) - The polling for first ever mayor of the federal capital Islamabad was held today (Monday).
Islamabad Metropolitan Corporation had 50 elected union council chairpersons and 27 members on reserved seats.
The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) which is far ahead of its competitors with 32 union council chairmen, swept the election of mayor.
It was followed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) eighteen union council chairmen.
The PML-N had fielded Sheikh Ansar Aziz as its candidate for the office of mayor against PTI s Raja Khurram Nawaz.
Three deputy mayors of Islamabad were also elected today. PML-N’s nominees were Chaudhry Riffat Javed, Syed Zeeshan Ali Naqvi and Muhammad Azam Khan.
The PTI had nominated Fouzia Arshad, Raja Zulqarnain and Ali Nawaz Awan for the deputy mayoral slots.
The polling was started at 9am and continued till 5 pm.
