FBI has confirmed after investigations that 334 online universities from US and institutions running under Axact were involved in selling fake degrees and diplomas. According to the FBI, the universities that issued the degrees were neither approved by US Department of Education nor were authenticated by any US accreditation board.

In a letter to Pakistani institution, US embassy has stated that all these universities were involved in illegal online services and they issued 2,381,000 fake degrees under ‘cash for qualification’ format. Similarly, 119,707 fake certificates were issued to local and foreign students.

Investigations revealed that the amount received for these degrees was submitted in foreign companies and banks. Some of this money was brought back into Pakistan in the name of software export.
