Rangers' powers: Ch Nisar fails to meet CM Sindh despite PM's direction

Dunya News

The duration of special powers is due to end on February 5 and the issue is likely to rise again

KARACHI (Dunya News) – The conflict over Rangers’ special powers in Sindh remained unresolved as Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar failed to meet Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah despite Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s direction, Dunya News reported.

CM Sindh has contacted Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Khursheed Shah afterwards and both leaders are reportedly deliberating over the issue.

According to details, the issue between Sindh and federation over special powers of Rangers is intact. Even the meeting between PM Nawaz and CM Sindh couldn’t bring the issue towards resolution.

The Prime Minister had directed Ch Nisar to meet CM Sindh in this regard; however, as per CM Sindh’s spokesperson, Ch Nisar neither contacted him nor signaled a meeting.

The lack of communication has made the CM Sindh ‘concerned’.

Meanwhile, CM Sindh has sought assistance from the Opposition Leader to resolve the issue. Khursheed Shah met the CM and held a detailed discussion over federation’s stance on Rangers’ powers.

CM Sindh informed Shah of Sindh government’s strategy to address reservations of the provincial government over Rangers’ powers.

The duration of special powers is due to end on February 5 and the issue is likely to rise again.

Sindh Information Adviser Moula Bakhsh Chandio said that their government never talked about rebelling against federation, adding that they only expressed their concerns.

He further said that Sindh government rejects the allegation of buying out local body representatives in Karachi.
