NAB gave green signal to start formal investigation against close friend of Asif Ali Zardari

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – National Accountability Bureau (NAB) approved the request to start formal investigation against Doctor Asim on Wednesday, reported Dunya News.

According to the details, NAB Executive Board gave green signal to the start formal investigation against the close friend of Asif Ali Zardari in cases of illegal allotment of land and money laundering. Director Land K D Azhar and Administrator Ziauddin hospital will also be investigated. Board also decided to start investigation again former minister of Balochistan assembly Syed Ahsan Shah and Sindh assembly’s Munawwar Talpur and Senator Fattah Muhammad Hasni. The references will also be filed against the corruption of 1 billion, 880 million rupees by PEPCO officials and some NAB officials.

Accountability Court (AC) on Tuesday has remanded former petroleum minister Dr Asim Hussain in National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB) custody for 14 days.

The 14-day physical remand was given today after Dr Asim was presented before court on expiration of remand granted earlier.

Investigation officer Zameer Abbasi requested the court to extend Dr Asim s remand as authorities have been successful in money laundering investigations. He said that at least 80 percent money laundering done on Dr Asim s part has been determined.

Ten percent record of the office in Lahore has also been seized, he added. The court extended the remand by 14 days and ordered the authorities to conduct medical test of the alleged corrupt official.

National Accountability Court (NAB) is pursuing a case against the former minister and Sindh Higher Education Commission (HEC) Chairman, Dr Asim Hussain. In earlier hearing, NAB official had stated that 50 percent of transactions done by the accused were traced. The court had remanded the accused in NAB’s custody for 14 days.

On the other hand, the alleged corrupt official is facing terror case for alleged facilitation of terrorists and armed wings of political parties in Karachi. Dr Hussain is accused of treating insurgents in his hospital in Sindh’s metropolitan.

On December 30, an anti-terrorism court (ATC) had issued non-bailable arrest warrants of Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s (MQM) mayoral candidate Waseem Akhtar, Anees Qaimkhani and Pakistan People’s Party’s (PPP) Abdul Qadir Patel among other ‘fugitives’ in Dr Asim Hussain’s case.

The ATC had adjourned indictment of the accused.

On January 4, professor Haroon Ahmad had medically reviewed Dr Hussain on orders of the accountability court. The psychiatrist declared the alleged terror facilitator mentally incapacitated. He said that Dr. Asim even had given committing suicide a thought.

According to the report, the psychiatrist recommended shifting Dr. Asim to hospital. The report has been handed to the judge of the accountability court, as well as National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
