Terror bid foiled: Four terrorists arrested in Karachi

The arrested suspected were planning an attack in the metropolis.
KARACHI (Web Desk) – A major terror bid in Karachi was foiled today (Wednesday) when defence police arrested at least four suspected terrorists belonging to a banned organization, Dunya News reported.
The suspects have been identified as Hanif alias Nadeem Kala, Ashraf alias Bholu, Rehmat and Zahid.
Police said they were planning an attack in the metropolis. Heavy weapons and ammunition were also seized during the raid.
Kidnappings for ransom, sectarian attacks and gang warfare have spiralled since 2008, terrifying the city’s 18 million inhabitants.
But an operation by police and paramilitary Rangers in the city’s tangled maze of teeming streets, launched in September 2013 on the orders of the central government, seems to be having some positive effect.
According to police record, 2042 civilians were murdered while 110 people were kidnapped in 2011. In 2012, 2403 civilians were killed and 113 cases of kidnapping were reported.
In 2013, 2789 civilians were gunned down and 85 were kidnapped from different areas of Karachi.
The targeted operation was launched in the city on September 5, 2013 after surge in incident of target killings and street crimes.
Relatively, 2014 saw decline in civilians casualties while of incidents of kidnapping for ransom increased. 1823 civilians lost their lives and 119 persons were kidnapped in 2014.
In 2015, there was significant reduction in overall crime rate due to massive security crackdown against the criminal gangs and terrorists, bringing relief to the masses. Reportedly, 863 civilians were murdered and 36 were kidnapped for ransom.
