He said his party will also strongly resist selective accountability

DUBAI (Dunya News) - Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarian (PPPP) president Asif Ali Zardari on Monday said power belongs to the people only, adding that they won’t let any individual, institution or extremist in the name of religion snatch power.

In his message on 88th birthday of late founder of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), he said his party is being accused of corruption for the sake of political alliances which, he said, would be strongly resisted.

He said selective accountability, theory of the holy cow, double standards and political manipulation is also the worst form of corruption.

The former president demanded accountability for “those who through the non-state actors put the national security on risk”.

Zardari said those who took oath under the Provisional Constitutional Ordinance (PCO) and endorsed dictators should also be brought to accountability.

The former president said that they won’t let anyone takeover the power by force in the name of religion.

He said Pakistan’s judiciary can review country’s laws but only within bounds of the constitution but does not have the authority to legislate.

Zardari said only parliament has the authority to legislate as per the constitution, adding that they also renew the determination to protect the constitution.
