Court ordered Ayyan to submit two surety bonds worth Rs10 lac alongwith providing personal guarantee

RAWALPINDI (Dunya News) – Customs court on Wednesday announced verdict of Ayyan Ali s plea for passport return in favour of the model.

The court while directing the custom officials to return her passport ordered Ayyan to submit two surety bonds worth Rs10 lac alongwith providing personal guarantee.

Detailed verdict states that decision of currency smuggling case can take some time however; Ayyan could not be deprived of her passport for a long time whereas the constitution has also given every citizen the right to travel.

The verdict also read that action will be taken against the guarantors if in case Ayyan did not return back from abroad and her property will also be confiscated.



On the other hand, Ayyan’s lawyer Shaista Wahab has claimed that her client’s name has not been included in the Exit Control List (ECL). She said that Ayyan’s abroad visit is necessary as many of her projects are pending.

The model pleaded not guilty after she was indicted in the currency smuggling case on November 20.

She has been the focus of media attention since March when authorities, working on a tip, nabbed her at the VIP lounge of Benazir Bhutto International Airport in Islamabad.

Under Pakistani laws, no one can carry over $10,000 on a flight, but authorities found $506,800 tucked in her luggage.
