Sartaj Aziz calls for dealing with root causes of terrorism

(Web Desk) - Addressing the 12th foreign ministers meeting of Asia-Europe in Luxembourg, Advisor on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz has called for addressing the root causes of terrorism, Radio Pakistan reported on Saturday.
The participants discussed important issues of climate change, 2030 agenda for sustainable development, disaster risk reduction and management, and connectivity.
They also underlined the need to focus attention on enhancing connectivity between Asia and Europe.
Addressing the gathering, Sartaj Aziz stressed the importance of an Afghan led and Afghan owned peace process for regional peace and stability.
He urged the European Union to play a leading role in finding a durable solution to the Palestinian question.
The Adviser highlighted the significance of Pakistan in providing a vital link between South Asia with Central and West Asia, as well as to Europe.
He mentioned several projects undertaken by Pakistan in cooperating with countries of the region, including China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India gas pipeline, CASA-1000, and Torkham-Jalalabad road project.
He urged for strengthening connections between Asia and Europe in education, science and technology, trade, business, security, culture, infrastructure, and people-to-people contacts.
Earlier on Thursday, Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias held a meeting with Sartaj Aziz in Luxembourg.
During the meeting, there was a discussion of bilateral relations as well as regional issues, with emphasis on the refugee issue. The two sides referred to the need for further cooperation in order to confront the increasing migration flows from Pakistan to Greece and the rest of Europe, while it was agreed to intensify the efforts of the Pakistan side towards immediate and unhindered implementation of the EU-Pakistan Readmission Agreement.
It was also agreed to strengthen the two countries’ cooperation in a number of sectors, including the political, military, education and culture sectors.
