Students of BZU Lahore stage protests over campus' recognition

LAHORE (Dunya News) – The students Bahauddin Zakariya University (BZU) Lahore campus took to streets on Monday to protest against uncertainty looming over their careers following the revelation that the campus is not recognized by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan, Dunya News reported.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif took notice of the incident and sought report from the HEC. He directed to resolve the issue on immediate basis.

The students blocked the road causing severe traffic jam at canal road and surroundings.

According to details, the students protested against varsity’s lack of recognition by the HEC and chanted loud slogans against the administration. They complained they are being awarding degrees which are not recognized the country’s higher education authority.

The lack of recognition essentially puts future of as many as five thousand students on stake. The demonstrators demanded immediate recognition of the campus.

The spokesperson of BZU Lahore campus said they are trying to attain HEC’s recognition and that it will happen soon.
