Punjab Home Minister Shuja Khanzada martyred in Attock blast
Roof of the office caved in due to explosion entrapping several people under the rubble.
ATTOCK (Web Desk/Dunya News) – Punjab Home Minister Shuja Khanzada among 17 others killed while several people sustained severe wounds in an intense blast that took place at political office in Shadi Khan area of Attock, Dunya News reported on Sunday.
As per details, Shuja Khanzada was hearing the matters of masses when roof of the office caved in due to explosion entrapping several people under the rubble who have been rescued.
Police and security officers have cordoned off the entire area and recovered bodies of as many as two suicide attackers. It is reported that Inspector General (IG) Punjab and Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar have demanded a helicopter for rescue efforts.
Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif has strongly condemned the blast and directed to speed up rescue activities. He said that such kind of acts cannot degrade nation s determination against terrorism.
Secretary Home Minister revealed that Shuja Khanzada was receiving threats over past few days but he was not afraid of consequences and fought against terrorism bravely.
Emergency has been imposed in the hospitals of Rawalpindi and Islamabad.
President Mamnoon Hussain has expressed profound grief and sorrow over the martyrdom of Punjab Home Minister Colonel retired Shuja Khanzada.
In a statement, he extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for them to bear this irreparable loss with courage and fortitude.
Army Chief General Raheel Sharif has condemned terrorist attack on Punjab Home Minister Shuja Khanzada and directed intelligence agencies to help find perpetrators.
According to ISPR, the army chief said that such dastardly coward attempts cannot dent our national resolve to eliminate the menace.
He said martyred Shuja Khanzada was a bold person whose sacrifice for greater cause of cleansing Pakistan of terrorism will not go waste.
