18th amendment: SC resumes hearing

The apex court resumed hearing of cases against some provisions of 18th amendment on Tuesday. A 17-member bench, under the head of Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, is hearing the case. During the case proceedings, the CJ admonished the petitioner Shahid Orakzai when he threw down a copy of Constitution on the floor, saying that he would prefer Quran over the Constitution always. The CJ remarked that such humiliation of the Constitution would not be tolerated, and ordered the petitioner to extend apology otherwise the court would issue the contempt notice to him. Justice Khilji observed that all the judges took oath under the constitution and vowed to protect it by all means. Later, Orakzai extended apology for his action.
